Wellbeing at the Heart of Education

SBL is more than a school because we prioritize emotional and social wellbeing alongside academic success. Whether it’s helping a student manage exam anxiety, feel comfortable turning on their camera in an online session, or explore physical exercise for mental health, we provide lifelong wellbeing strategies.

For instance, a student recently struggled with relationship issues. Instead of reviewing her academic plan during mentoring, she used the session to discuss emotional wellbeing, communication strategies, and possible solutions with her mentor. She left feeling empowered and ready to move forward, knowing she had support at every step.

Personalized Learning for Every Student

SBL is more than a school because we don’t believe in predefined academic levels. Every child develops at their own pace and in their own way. Instead of forcing students into expected standards, SBL offers a flexible curriculum that supports continuous progress at an individual pace.

For example, our Maths continuum covers nine skill areas, ranging from early number recognition to advanced iGCSE-level mathematics. Students move through these areas at their own speed and in an order that suits them. This approach fosters confidence, motivation, and engagement, leading to deeper learning.

As a result:

• Some students use maths in practical design projects.
• Others begin iGCSE courses as early as age 11.
• Many create problem-solving challenges for their peers.

This student-centered approach acknowledges that everyone is unique, with individual strengths and learning styles.

Learning Driven by Passion and Curiosity

SBL is more than a school because learning is tailored to each student’s interests. When students explore topics they are passionate about, they feel more engaged, motivated, and curious.

At SBL, students design their own learning paths using metacognition—understanding how they learn best. This personalized approach is encouraged in both classrooms and mentoring sessions.

Recently, a student decided not to use the provided learning materials. Instead, they chose a self-selected topic to explore. This decision encouraged autonomy, inspired classmates, and turned the facilitator into a “guide on the side”—supporting the student’s journey while fostering independent learning.
