Giving up is never an option
A few years ago, a former student of mine reached out to me because he was going through a difficult time in his life.
He said: “I’ve been thinking for a long time whether to call you or not. I need your help!”
He was desperate because he lost his job and started to question himself, his abilities, his future, his dreams.
Despite his immense efforts and constant willingness to take the somewhat unconventional path in his life by throwing security overboard to follow his dreams, he seemed to be at a dead end. This situation brought him to the brink of despair. He was close to giving up.
We started to talk to one another on a regular basis.
In our sessions I asked him: What sense would it make to give up now?
Giving up would mean not appreciating what has been achieved so far, not valuing oneself and one’s own vision anymore, and agreeing to a life that others dictate.
Soon it became clear that he still believed in his vision, a vision that inspired him, that seemed to give meaning to his life. When he realised how much he had actually already achieved, he knew that giving up was exactly the wrong thing to do. He wanted to continue. He realised that he just had to change some circumstances, and to be inspired by his vision every day anew. It had to become his ritual, a ritual that brought new life into his vision day by day and put him in an inspired state over and over again.
At School Beyond Limitations we invite our students to see challenges as learning opportunities that allow them to grow, to adjust and to change as this will take them to their destination.
Success comes in the end to those people who firmly believe in their vision, work persistently towards their goals, and to those who recognise their unique talents.
At School Beyond Limitations we encourage our students – like what my former student learned – to have the courage to stand up for their dreams, to work on them by being aware of their unique abilities and to trust the process of creation.
Giving up was ultimately not an option for my former student either. Despite a few setbacks, which this time did not take him to despair, he held on to his vision and worked on it daily. He pursued his paths and has developed into a successful young professional who himself now inspires lots of people.
At School Beyond Limitations, we believe that giving up is never an option. For us, life itself shows us that we can trust the process and that – by taking one step at the time – each student will be able to bring their unique essence into life.
